Who can apply?

You can apply if your child attends a South Ayrshire primary school or secondary school. You also need to receive a qualifying benefit.

Applications for 2020 to 2021

An application for free school meals does not require to be submitted for primary 1, 2, and 3 pupils and primary 4 pupils, at the schools listed below, but will be required for a clothing grant.

Free school meals

All children in primary 1, 2 and 3 will receive free school meals. All children in primary 4 at the following schools are entitled to free school meals:

Braehead Primary School; Cairn Primary School; Dalmilling Primary School; Girvan Primary School; Kincaidston Primary School; Muirhead Primary School; Newton Primary School; Sacred Heart Primary School; St Cuthbert's Primary School; St John's Primary School.

Clothing grant

  • The current value of a clothing grant is £110 per child where the parent/carer meets the eligibility criteria

  • Only one application can be made per child for each school year

  • Clothing grants are not available for children attending Early Year Centres

  • If your child has passed their official school leaving date, applications will only be processed once they have returned to school in August

  • Young people aged 16-18 years old who meet the eligibility criteria in their own right, can also claim clothing grant and free school meals

  • Children who attend primary school and receive free school meals will also receive free milk
